Авесто - сборник священных книг древнеиранской религии, господствовавшей на Ближнем и Среднем Востоке до арабского завоевания (VII-VIII вв. н. э.). Религию эту в науке называют маздаизмом (по имени главного божества Агура-Мазды), зороастризмом (по имени легендарного ее основателя пророка Зороастра, или Заратуштры), магизмом (по названию ее жрецов - выходцев из племени магов), религией Авесты (по имени ее главной священной книги), огнепоклонством (по особой роли огня в ее культе). «Доброе слово, добрая мысль, доброе дело» - это основной принцип этого произведения. Avesto is a collection of sacred books of the ancient Iranian religion, which prevailed in the Near and Middle East before the Arab conquest (VII-VIII centuries AD). This religion is called in science Mazdaism (by the name of the main deity Agura Mazda), Zoroastrianism (by the name of the legendary founder of the prophet Zoroaster or Zarathushtra), by magic (by the name of its priests - descendants of the Magi tribe), by the Avesta religion (the sacred book), fire worship (for the special role of fire in its cult). A later branch of this religion was called Mithraism - on behalf of the god Mitra. The main content of the Avesta is the doctrine of the irreconcilable struggle of the light principle, personified by Agura Mazda, and the dark beginning, the evil personified by Angra Mainyu. Agura-Mazda leads a host of spirits of light and good-Agur. Angra Mainyu - hordes of spirits of evil and darkness - devas. "A good word, a good thought, a good deed" is the basic principle of this work.
