Leachate

Any liquid that has percolated through the deposited waste at a landfill and is either emitted from or contained within the landfill. A leachate will have picked up dissolved, suspended and/or microbiological contaminants from the waste. Unless collected and/or treated, a leachate can contaminate groundwater and surface waters.
